Today, I practiced a variation of a technique known as focused attention meditation (aka concentration meditation). While one's focus can be target toward an external object or body part, I like to focus my attention on a short quote or mantra. I like this form of meditation because my needs change daily--all of ours do. On a Monday, we might need a little extra motivation; on a day with a high-stakes meeting, we might need an added boost of confidence; and on a day during which we have a big presentation, a reminder to remain calm might be needed. Today (and most days), I needed compassion.
For the next 10 days--during arguably one of the most stressful times of the year--I’m committed to be vulnerable to you and with you as I re-initiate a regular meditation practice. I’m going to consider this page a judgment-free zone, and hope others will share in this journey with me. Who’s hopping on the bandwagon with me?
One of the questions I am most commonly asked is to explain the difference between the Miss Universe/USA Organization and the Miss America Organization. Many outside of the world of pageants have never paid close enough attention to realize that the two televised pageants were not one in the same. Admittedly, until around six years ago, I’m not sure I could have articulated the difference, so I usually try to keep my explanation simple, as I will do here.
